This section focuses on NBA news and other miscellaneous topics regarding the National Basketball Association and its players. Though we focus on upcoming basketball prospects, we also cover basketball at the professional level. On June 6, 1946, the league was founded as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). In 1949, the Basketball Association of America merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) to form the NBA as we know it today. The league soared in popularity in the 80’s and 90’s with superstars Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan. In the 21st Century, the league is as diverse and competitive as ever. Moreover, the NBA has evolved into becoming the pinnacle of basketball worldwide.

Most foreign professional basketball leagues have modeled themselves after the American-based league. There are thirty teams in the NBA, twenty-nine in the United States, and one in Canada. Furthermore, these thirty teams consist of 450 of the best basketball players in the world. Playing in the NBA is one of the most prestigious honors in team sports, with less than 5,000 players in league history playing in a game.
